Beth Shak has been a Philanthropist for many years. She has always felt that when you are fortunate in life it is your obligation to do as much as you can to help others.
The first large donation came after she finished second place in the World Series of Poker. She came up with the idea for the “All In For Kids” Poker tournament to benefit Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She and her daughter Lindy spent many hours in the hospice care floor. She also spent time with Dr. Tammy Kang , the medical director of Pediatric Advanced Care.
Dennis Heron is the head of the Southeastern PA “ Make a Wish Foundation.” Through him Beth would go to the homes of terminally ill children to find out their “wish.” Though a donation, she could make their final wish a reality.
Beth Shak designed and donated shoes to benefit Breastcancer.org. She also raised funds for the Susan G Komen Pink Tie Ball. She has always believed in Organ Donation and has given both time and money to “Gift of Life.”
Other charities that received donations are:
1. Wish Upon a Hero
2. Shades of Greatness headed by Lesean McCoy-Lou
Gehreg’s Disease
3. Paws
4. ASPCA Dana Spain
5. University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital Helen Radenkovic Working Dog Center
6. Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric Aids Foundation
7. American Red Cross
“I grew up seeing Philanthropy in my family. I lost my older sister and best friend when I was a teenager. A fund was created at Medical College of Pennsylvania, now Drexal College of Medicine. A grant is given every year to a deserving medical student.” – Beth Shak
Beth is on the committees of ONEXONE and the committee of “Gift of Life.” She is also on the board of “Wish Upon a Hero Foundation.”
